The agreement extends through December 2006 and covers instant and on-line lottery games and promotions, including tickets, point-of-sale and broadcast and print advertising.

"Bling Bling is a four-year-old expression whose origin can be traced to hip-hop music and the young adult, urban market, which today comprises about 45 percent of the U.S. population," said Steve Saferin, President of MDI. "Recently, the term has made its way into mainstream culture and, as a result, has begun to attract more and more advertising dollars from Fortune 500 consumer goods companies looking to appeal to young adults. We believe the Bling Bling property would lend itself nicely, for example, to a Diamonds and Dollars-themed game, or perhaps to a game called Bling Bling Fling that offered high-end items such as expensive jewelry, luxury automobiles, exotic vacations or state-of-art electronics."
But just what is Bling Bling?
The term has its commercial roots in a 1999 song by a New Orleans musical artist named B.G., a member of the rap group Cash Money Millionaires. Originally used to describe diamonds, jewelry and other forms of showy style, Bling Bling has since broadened to include all things "cool, in vogue or over the top." That could mean riding in the newest high-end luxury automobile or SUV, taking a cruise to an exotic island, or enjoying the high-energy excitement of a weekend getaway to Las Vegas.
Bling Bling gained mainstream traction in 2001 when the words were inscribed in diamonds on the NBA championship ring of the Los Angeles Lakers, and its superstar center, Shaquille O’Neal, used the term as he flashed his new piece of jewelry to media.

Today, it is not uncommon to hear or see the Bling Bling expression in various mainstream media, including, for example, MTV, BET, CNN, the Wall Street Journal and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and in billboard advertising for companies like Citibank and Helzberg Diamonds stores. The term will even appear in the next updated volume of the venerable Oxford English Dictionary.
"The fact that Bling Bling is expected to be inducted into the newest version of the Oxford Dictionary is the clearest evidence to date that the term is becoming a mainstream cultural phenomenon," said Saferin. Atlanta Hip-Hop stars Jermaine
Dupri and Lil Jon recently wrapped a thirty second television
spot for Heineken titled "Jet Bet."
In the ad, the pair wager on who will take
home the most Grammy's, with the winner receiving a 12-pack
of Heineken, personally delivered by the loser of the bet.
After Dupri wins, Lil Jon flies on a private
jet to deliver the prize, one bottle short.
"I think they're gonna love it because
it's real young fly and flashy," Dupri told AllHipHop.com.
"It kinda takes from my video with Jay-Z ["Money
Ain't A Thing], but here we are betting 12 packs instead
of money."
It's full of private planes, Bentleys, girls,
Heinekens and all the s**t we do! It's straight up Hip-Hop,
from the look, [to] the actors [Dupri and Lil Jon] to the
soundtrack."

Judge To Take Control Of Suge Knights' Assets

A Los Angeles judge has declared that he plans to seize control of Marion "Suge" Knight's personal and business assets after the Hip-Hop mogul refused to pay a $107 million civil court judgment from 2005.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald Sohigian said that he planned to appoint a court officer to manage the Death Row co-founder’s finances, but said Knight could prevent the injunction if he would reveal all of his assets to the court.
Knight wasn’t present for the proceedings on Thursday.
In March 2005, Knight was ordered to pay Lydia Harris $107 million, after she charged that the impresario defrauded her out of her half of the label. Harris asserts that she helped found the fledgling Death Row label in the early 90’s.
"Because he had a long history of deceiving the court and avoiding payment, I asked the court to appoint a receiver to take over," Harris' attorney, Rex Julian Beaber, said to Reuters . "If Knight cooperates in providing the information, he can ask the court to remove the receiver. But I don't think there's a chance in hell Knight is going to cooperate."
Sohigian said that Death Row Records would be placed in receivership if Knight refuses to appear at a debtor hearing next month. Receivership is a special form of bankruptcy where a company can avoid liquidation through a court-appointed trustee.
Dermot Givens, counsel for Knight, claimed that Sohigian had yet to formally signed the order sequestering Knights assets. Furthermore, Givens said that Knight and Harris had independently settled on the multi-million dollar case. The judge hasn’t signed such an agreement, should it exist.
"In May of 2005, [Harris] received a million dollars and rights to various music, and she signed a settlement agreement," Givens told Reuters .
Lydia Harris must also contend with her husband, convicted drug dealer Michael “Harry-O” Harris. Harry-O claims that he is due at least half of the $107 million judgment and he filed for divorce in June of 2005 after learning of Lydia’s legal maneuvering.
Earlier this year, Knight and Death Row Records filed a $106 million dollar lawsuit against Harry-O and others claiming fraud, conspiracy, racketeering and attempted extortion. |

Feds Officially Seek Death Penalty Against Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff

The federal government is officially seeking the death penalty against Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff in his upcoming murder and racketeering case.
Prosecutor Roslynn R. Mauskopf filed a death penalty request notice yesterday (March 22) in the case, which charges McGriff with the murder of Queens, New York, rapper Eric "E Money Bags" Smith and Smith's associate, Troy Singleton.
"The defendant [McGriff] possesses a risk of future dangerousness as manifested by a continued pattern of violence, lack of remorse and contemporaneous convictions for multiple murders," Mauskopf said.
McGriff is also facing charges for a drug-related double slaying in Owings Mills, Maryland, where police found $30,000 in cash in a stash house allegedly used by McGriff.
Police also confiscated cocaine, heroin and promotional items from the Crime Partners movie that McGriff allegedly funded with help from Hip-Hop label The Inc.
Last March, prosecutors unsuccessfully attempted to combine The Inc.'s heads Irv and Chris Lorenzo's federal money laundering case with McGriff's, but a judge eventually struck the motion down.
In Dec. 2005, the Lorenzo's were eventually acquitted of laundering over $1 million of McGriff's drug proceeds through The Inc, which is home to top-selling artists Ja Rule, Ashanti and others.
The government accused McGriff of secretly owning and controlling the label, which was distributed by Island Def Jam Music Group.
"Though the feds allege 'substantial planning and premeditation' on Supreme's part in the murders of Troy Singleton and Eric 'E Money Bags' Smith it's still a shock that they are seeking the death penalty, In law enforcement circles, these kind of targeted killings are often regarded as less worthy of a death penalty authorization than murders in which victims are tortured or maimed."
Brown authored the best-selling book, Queens Reigns Supreme: Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip Hop Hustler , a detailed look into McGriff's drug dealing crew, other Queens drug dealers and their connection to the Hip-Hop industry.
Last December, prosecutors announced that during McGriff's trial, they would introduce evidence that he also ordered the May 2000 shooting of 50 Cent, who used the shooting incident to help catapult himself to fame.
The introduction of 50 Cent's shooting means that the rapper may be subpoenaed to testify in court against McGriff, with whom he has publicly feuded.
McGriff is also accused of taking surveillance of E Money Bags and having the rapper gunned down in his SUV in July 2001. The government accuses McGriff of ordering E Money Bags' murder to avenge the murder of a friend, Colbert "Black Just" Johnson.
Last week, McGriff was charged with a new attempted murder, for allegedly plotting to kill a woman that was pregnant with his child because she refused to have an abortion. Prosecutors also motioned to move McGriff's impending trial to May 1.

Judge Rules In Favor Of Black Enterprise, The Source Gets New Owners

A final decision has been made by the Supreme Court of the State of New York in favor of the takeover of The Source magazine by Black Enterprise/Greenwich Street Corporate Growth Partners.
As of today (March 23), Textron Financial, the company's senior leader, is free to sell the portion of the company that Dave Mays owns.
In his ruling, Judge Richard B. Lowe III stated that "the contracts and agreements are clear, unequivocal and unambiguous and should be enforced."
According to the ruling, Mays willingly signed contracts giving BE/Greenwich Street Partners the right to take control if he defaulted on debt obligations. By not fulfilling these obligations Mays lost control of the company and along with full ownership.
"Mays and Raymond 'Benzino' Scott have consistently made false statements over the last two months about their continuing control of The Source," said Jeremy Miller, President and CEO of The Source magazine. "These rumors and lies have been and continue to be false. We are looking forward to finally being able to move forward without distractions."
In the April issue that will hit newsstands next week, The Source will exclusively explain exactly why Mays and Benzino were ousted.
Mays has the right take the ruling to trial, but his remaining shares would still be auctioned off. |

Snoop Dogg Launches New Pet Line For Dogs

Snoop Dogg has entered into a worldwide licensing agreement with JAKKS Pacific Inc. to market a line of pet products based on the rapper's image.
The deal covers leashes, apparel, treats, toys, beds and more for dogs.
"Snoop Dogg's love goes beyond people -- it is for living creatures throughout the universe," the rapper said. "How can I be Snoop Dogg and not show my love for pets?"
According to Jennifer Richmond, senior vice president of licensing and media for JAKKS Pacific, Inc., the line will be sold to mass retailers, pet superstores, and eventually specialty store, nationwide.
"Our team is really excited to develop and market what we expect will be an urban and edgy line," Richmond said.
The Snoop Dogg branded pet line is slated to hit stores later this year.

Ruff Ryders CEO's Expanding Brand Beyond Music

In addition to releasing upcoming projects from DMX and The Lox, Ruff Ryders CEOs Darrin "Dee" and Joaquin "Waah" Dean are also planning to expand the brand beyond music.
This year the label formed a nationwide bike club with street teams in most major U.S. cities.
The different chapters cross-market Ruff Ryders artists and provide an arena for the streets to express themselves in the extreme-sports genre, which is commonly associated with white, suburban youth.
"It's important to not over-saturate the market to the point where fans are sick of hearing your music," Waah Dean said. "We felt it was important to take a step back and expand the brand through our bike culture to maintain relevancy."
Ruff Ryders has more than 20 million record sales to their credit, including five platinum albums by DMX and a series of compilations.
The label recently severed their ties with Virgin Records and is preparing solo albums from Jadakiss and Styles P.
Ruff Ryders is also currently renegotiating The Lox's deal with Interscope and seeking a distribution deal for Drag-On.

NFL Star Terrell Owens Disses Philadelphia Eagles In New Rap

NFL All-Pro receiver Terrell Owens recently tried a hand at rapping by recording a diss track aimed at his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a lengthy rap posted on his Web site (www.terrellowens.com), the newly acquired Dallas Cowboy openly taunts the Eagles about earning a guaranteed $10 million this season from Dallas.
"When it comes to this game I'm the best in the field/Some said I was gonna sign just a one year deal/But I got what I wanted up front, 10 mil/Changed the rules of the game so now how you feel?"
Owens also takes shots at the Eagles management: "I got a brand new team/I am a Cowboy now/No more black and green/To the haters that said I'm not going to get my money/I'm laughing in your face ha ha that's funny," he raps.
This past Saturday (March 18), Owens signed a three-year contract with the Cowboys.
Absent from the press conference was Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, who was forced to release protégé Keyshawn Johnson to make room for Owens.
Details of Owens' contract weren't immediately available, but the deal is likely to include behavior-related provisions.
His blowup with Philadelphia last season led to new regulations regarding punishment, which were written into the NFL's latest collective bargaining agreement.
Before his actions limited him to nine games last season, Owens had at least 75 receptions and 1,100 yards receiving in five straight seasons.
Owens is looking forward to a stellar season with the Cowboys as he raps: "And this will probably be my best season by far, no more getting my Eagle on, you can meet me at the stars."
At press time, Eagles' management had not issued any public comment regarding Owens or his diss track.
